And we all know how reliable a certified mechanic can be sometimes.

I'm sure after DMA we will see a lot of responss to the actual value of the certification. I'd love to see someone that actually attended, for purposes of the certification, post their thoughts here.

I think what remains to be seen is whether or not businesses and perhaps the industry in general, attach any kind automatic proficiency to the "certification". In this respect, I remain a bit guarded as to whether or a SEM certification will actually carry any weight.

I look at things like "certified master mechanic" or "certified master jeweler" and wonder if more time actually ends up being spent trying to promote and explain "why" this "certification" is or should be important. No offense to anyone "certified".

[...] Jjone recently wrote a very positive piece about the announcement of the DMA seo sem certification program. In fact he titled the piece A Positive Spin Off of the DMA SEM Certification and it was indeed. But his answer to a comment summed it up best when he said, I imagine that many companies will still desire a work portfollio even with the certification because the work portfoilio would typically show periods of time and in that a display of your on going understanding of what the search engines are doing.
Feydakin,

I imagine that many companies will still desire a work portfollio even with the certification because the work portfoilio would typically show periods of time and in that a display of your on going understanding of what the search engines are doing.

Can we expect alphabet soup certifications? ABSOLUTELY! It is practically absurd to think that other companies and organizations won't want to jump in on this opportunity.

In my opinion, this is LONG over due. - My $0.02

Do you think that this certification will be worth any more than the alphabet soup that hit the tech world 10 years ago?? A+, MCSE, MCP, etc etc etc..

Personally, I'l take a work portfollio of success over any certificate any day..
