W3C Considered a Factor in SEO Ranking?

by Staff Writer

Just thought this was an interesting topic being addressed by other SEO's in the field. Many would wonder if complying with W3C Standards would affect your rankings in Search Engines. Personally, I really haven't noticed a difference between websites W3C Compliance rank different than other websites with messy code.

However, having a messy code could lead to a couple problems. First of all, if a search engine can't index your website correctly due to incorrect coding, this would definitely cause a problem with your SEO Ranking.

Another fact, is that different browsers like Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox read code differently. Internet Explorer tends to read code a bit loosely than FireFox does. This would affect your visitors that use a browser displaying your website incorrectly.

Google Fishing for Webmaster Snitches

by Staff Writer

Everyone knows Google's stand on webmasters selling paid links to other websites. They hate it even more when it's for links that aren't related to their website content. I can understand why Search Engines would be defensive since they believe webmasters are simply looking to 'game' them.

Anyway, Google has decided to set up a way for webmasters to snitch on their fellow webmasters who are selling paid links on their website. Matt Cutts, apparently, heard many webmasters complaining that they couldn't snitch on their competitors more effectively.

Google, always looking out to improve their search engine, decided to ask webmasters to report users buying/selling paid link listings. I would find this a major problem for forums like DigitalPoint, who have an extremely busy Marketplace, consisting of many paid link sales.

Basically, if you have a competitor (ranking higher than you in Google) who sells paid links and you would like them to suffer a penalty, go and report them now!

Upcoming SEO Grab Bag from SES New York

by Jjones

As the week comes to an end and Search Engine Strategies New York winds down and packs up in anticipation for the next conference in Columbus Ohio I am sure we will all have our hands full with the media that will be created from this conference.

This is the first time SEOFox has appeared on scene at SES and I’m certain it will not be the last appearance made by our highly talented staff.  I myself look forward to picking up a few tips and tricks our team has learned at the conference and I hope that they will be generous enough to share a few on our blog over the next couple of weeks.

I know many people that attended and I’ll be sure to write about anything I think might be useful to our readers as I discover what they brought back from the conference.

SES NYC 2007

by WilliamC

We are finally back from the Search Engine Strategies conferance. I have to say, the regulars who do that show all the time must have feet of steel. Or maybe my shoes just sucked. All in all though, it was an awesome event and trip. I have not been to Manhattan in too many years. My daughter Audrey and I took the horse drawn carrige trip around Central Park, then had fun finding various restaurants, stores, and boutiques in the area to browse around.

Back to the show, what can I say but that it rocked. I finally got to meet quite a few people we do business with, have done business with, and some we just have chatted with on the webmaster forums and blogs. The sessions I went to were professionally run, and I even caught a few tidbits that I did not already know, which made the trip worth it as well. WebmasterRadio.FM was there to cover the whole show live as usual and we had the chance to hang out at their booth a good bit of the time were were on he exhibit floor and meet some new people also.

The best part is that we were able to promote our newest business, GadgetSpark and the awesome sidebar gadgets we have had the pleasure of developing for numerous clients. GadgetSpark was a huge hit among all we talked to and I expect it will be doing much bigger and better things in the very near future because of it.

I am still feet-weary and sorta tired, so I will cut this installment shot and try to continue it later.  Have a great day everyone  :)

Social Spam Marketing via Digg

by Staff Writer

A lot of people are looking for free traffic nowadays and they hope that a submission to Digg will magically appear in the frontpage and send a ton of traffic as well as links. Well, it doesn't. Digg doesn't supply long-term traffic, but many websites syndicate their feed (I believe) and many bloggers would probably blog about the story if they find it interesting. This supplies long-term links to your website.

Now getting to the frontpage of Digg isn't easy. The more traffic they get, the more Diggs are required to get to the frontpage. That's why there are services like Subvert & Profit come to light. The launch of this new website really got me thinking how people are desperate for Diggs, that they would pay for them. This ruins the whole point of social media marketing (in my opinion), since you are trying to market using the community, instead of marketing AT the community.

When you market something using a community, more people are involved and have a better acceptance rate. When marketing towards the community using companies like Subvert & Profit, a good amount of people won't even notice your website/content because it is not something they are interested in. Tons of times good Diggs go unnoticed, and helping these diggs rise to the frontpage would be more beneficial. Simply put, don't spam Digg just to get in the frontpage since it won't be as beneficial as actually creating something that deserves to be on the frontpage and simply needs a push to be noticed!

Social Media Marketing should be done by actually setting up relationships with people on the web, preferably users on Digg that enjoy topics relative to your website. It may take time, but it would help you earn Diggs correctly and would help your future Digg submissions as well! It shouldn't take a sneaky company like Subvert & Profit to help people find out the correct way to social marketing, maybe this post will help you!
