Pantone IS color. If you need to coordinate or callibrate colors between printers then you need to know pantone. The standard for color, and a requirement for anyone who does print design.

Computer Arts Magazine
Based in the UK, this magazine is chock full of step by step tutorials, tips, articles and just anything related to the computer arts. This can be found at larger book sellers in the US, and it's worth every penny they charge. Usually comes with a CD full of tidbits as well.
